In a four-digit number, each digit has a place: thousands, hundreds, tens or ones. The position of a digit determines its value.

Break numbers apart

  1. Read the number from left to right.
  2. Name the value of each digit according to its place.
  3. Partition the number into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.
  4. Recombine the parts to check the original number.
