About this worksheet

This Year 6 reading comprehension activity helps students practise reading and responding to an informational text about food security — reliable access to enough safe and nutritious food for a growing world population.

Students locate information, use the built-in vocabulary helper, and answer literal and inferential questions. The passage also introduces useful real-world ideas: climate impacts on crops, pressures on Australian agriculture (drought, flood and biosecurity), emerging food technologies, and questions about fairness in global food systems.

That extra knowledge is a natural bonus of a well-chosen reading text — not a separate Science lesson. The main skill practised here is Reading.

Instructions are clear, the text is age-appropriate for Year 6, and a full answer key is included in the same PDF.

Learning Intention

Students will read and comprehend an informational text and demonstrate understanding by answering literal and inferential questions.
