About This Worksheet

This worksheet gives early readers practice moving from decoding individual words to understanding a complete sentence. Children need to connect the words they read with meaning, rather than simply reading accurately.

How to Use It

Read the sentence together first if needed. Ask the child to reread it, identify the important information and then answer the question. Encourage them to point to the part of the sentence that supports their answer. If a word is difficult, return to the sounds and blend it rather than guessing from the picture.

Parent Tip

After each sentence, ask a simple follow-up question such as “How do you know?” This encourages children to use evidence from the words they have read.
