About This Worksheet
This Foundation Maths worksheet introduces children to everyday measurement language. Students compare objects and events by noticing which is longer or shorter, heavier or lighter, holds more or less, and takes longer or less time.
What Students Practise
- Comparing length using longer and shorter
- Comparing mass using heavier and lighter
- Comparing capacity using more and less
- Talking about duration using everyday language
How to Use It
Start with real objects. Place two pencils side by side and compare their lengths. Hold two classroom objects to compare which feels heavier, and compare containers to discuss which can hold more. For duration, talk about events that take longer or shorter.
Use the worksheet after these hands-on comparisons so children can connect the vocabulary with pictures and situations.
Parent Tip
Measurement language can be practised during everyday routines. Ask, “Which cup holds more?” “Which book is longer?” or “Which object feels heavier?” The goal is to explain comparisons, not to measure with a ruler or scale yet.
