Writing a Narrative About a Special Day

A simple narrative has a clear sequence of events. Encourage children to explain what happened, who was involved and how the character felt.

Plan Before Writing

  1. Choose the special day.
  2. Write what happened first, next and last.
  3. Add one or two details about the setting or people.
  4. Include a feeling or reaction.

Use time words such as first, then, after that and finally to help the reader follow the events.
