Understanding Singular and Plural Nouns

A singular noun names one person, place, animal or thing. A plural noun names more than one. Many plural nouns are formed by adding -s, while some need a different ending.

Check Your Noun

  1. Ask whether there is one or more than one.
  2. Choose the correct singular or plural form.
  3. Read the whole sentence to check that it makes sense.

Look for clues such as one, a, two, many or several.
